After handing out most of the attention to Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese is now grabbing the spotlight away from her. Among those who have given the Chicago Sky star her flowers is no other than NFL legend and sports analyst Shannon Sharpe.
Reese had a standout collegiate career, first at the University of Maryland and then at Louisiana State University (LSU). As a highly touted recruit, Reese joined Maryland in 2020 but her freshman season was interrupted by a fractured right foot. She bounced back as a sophomore, earning third-team All-American honors from the Associated Press.
The forward then transferred to LSU for her junior season in 2022-23. She had a dominant year, being named a unanimous first-team All-American and leading the Tigers to their first NCAA championship. Reese was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament after setting the single-season records for double-doubles and rebounds in the SEC.
As a senior in 2023-24, Reese was named SEC Player of the Year and a second-team All-American. She capped off her college career with numerous accolades, including being a two-time first-team All-American and SEC All-Defensive Team selection.
Reese’s stellar college performance led to her being selected 7th overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft. At the international level, she won a silver medal with the U.S. national team at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.
NFL Legend Shannon Sharpe Praises Angel Reese After Leading Chicago Sky To Win Vs. Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever
Just recently, Reese led Chicago to an 88-87 win over Clark and the Indiana Fever. This prompted NFL icon Shannon Sharpe to give the former LSU star her flowers in a post on X.
“Angel Reese whipping a** again 2day like always. IF* she gets 2 her dominant hand. She’s scoring or you’re fouling her. 25 pts 16 rbs #WNBA #SkyvsFever,” Sharpe tweeted.
Over the course of 15 games this season, Reese is averaging 13.2 points on 40 percent shooting from the field, 11.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest. The Sky are in eighth place in the WNBA with a record of six wins and nine losses.
As it stands, Reese is just getting warmed up during her first season as a pro. If she keeps this up, expect Sharpe to hand out more praises for the Sky rookie.
