Robert Griffin III has confidently declared Michael Penix Jr. as his pick for the NFL’s breakout quarterback of the year. The former Washington quarterback sees immense potential in Penix, who is set to lead the Atlanta Falcons in his first full season as their starter.

Penix, drafted eighth overall by the Falcons in 2024, spent most of his rookie season as a backup to Kirk Cousins. Despite limited action, his three starts at the end of the season showcased flashes of brilliance. Penix’s ability to stay composed under pressure and his league-leading 17.3 yards per completion when facing pass rushers caught Griffin’s attention, signaling a promising future.

Griffin emphasized Penix’s elite arm talent, deep-ball accuracy, and quick decision-making as standout qualities. With the Falcons investing the offseason in tailoring their offense around him, Penix has the tools to unlock the potential of Atlanta’s playmakers. Targets like Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijan Robinson stand to benefit from his ability to distribute the ball effectively.

Penix’s strengths align with Griffin’s vision of a modern NFL quarterback who thrives in high-pressure situations. His athleticism and poise mirror Griffin’s own rookie-year success, where Griffin electrified the league with over 4,000 total yards and 27 touchdowns. Griffin’s endorsement suggests Penix could follow a similar trajectory, provided he stays healthy.

As it stands, Penix is Griffin’s choice when it comes to the breakout QB for the upcoming season. This can be seen in a tweet he posted on his official X account.

“Michael Penix Jr. will be the breakout QB of the Year in the NFL this year,” Griffin tweeted.

The Falcons, who finished 8-9 last season, are optimistic that Penix can lead them back to the playoffs for the first time in seven years. With the NFC South wide open, his breakout performance could be the catalyst for Atlanta’s resurgence.

Robert Griffin III’s bold prediction not only highlights Penix’s potential but also sets high expectations for his 2025 campaign. As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on the young quarterback to see if he can deliver on this promise.
