The NFL’s most notable team, the Dallas Cowboys, is in big trouble this season and will not get better. Dallas has absolutely zero run game on offense, and they watched Derrick Henry absolutely destroy their defense. Henry was vocal during free agency about wanting to come to the Cowboys, but owner Jerry Jones ‘could not’ offer him a solid contract.
Jones specifically said:
“We couldn’t afford Derrick Henry.”
Dallas is in big trouble this year, and if they do not turn it around immediately they will be far from getting into the playoffs this year. They have one of the toughest schedules in the league, and they do not look competitive against solid teams let alone contenders.
NFL Insider Rips Jerry Jones For Being a Liar
ESPN’ and NFL analyst Mike Greenberg, in addition to the entire Cowboys fanbase, did not let Jerry off the hook with this ridiculous statement. Dallas signed their quarterback and star receiver right as the season was about to get going, and that was one of the key reasons they weren’t able to bring any good players in the offseason.
Because of how badly they have dealt with their roster, they are looking up at many teams this year, and this may be the end of the Mike McCarthy era in Dallas. The team must be regretting not finding a running back, and especially missing out on Henry.
Greeny went on a tangent ripping the owner for the state the Cowboys find themselves in:
“I like and admire Jerry Jones very much, but that cannot be said unchecked. We must fact check things like that. You know how you easily could have afforded Derrick Henry?” Greenberg asked. “If you had paid CeeDee Lamb when you should have, if you had paid Dak Prescott when you should have. Most teams don’t wait until an hour before the season starts to sign their quarterback to the biggest contract in the history of the National Football League.”
“If they had decided to treat the offseason like it began before September 1, they could easily have afforded Derrick Henry and a lot of other pieces,” the ESPN host added. “So what you saw on display yesterday was a team that during this offseason got worse and more expensive. Which is bad management, it is bad ownership, it is bad leadership from a football standpoint, and that’s what was on display from the Cowboys yesterday.”

Henry, on the other hand, has work to do with the Baltimore Ravens after getting their first win of the season against Dallas. Henry put on a show against the team that passed on him in the offseason totaling: 151 yards and a pair of scores on 25 carries. He was candid about wanting to stick it to the team that passed on him:
“I hold myself to a high standard. I definitely wanted to come out here and be able to have an impact to give us a chance to win by the way I played,” Henry said after the game. “Being in Dallas — this is where the offseason is [for me and] where I spend most of my time in the offseason. It felt a little good today for sure.”
The Cowboys may have an ‘easier’ game coming up on Thursday night, but they have many rough matchups after that. If they lose on Thursday it is safe to say their hopes of making any type of playoff run is officially over.
Even with a win, they will need to stack more after if they even want to sneak into the playoffs, and the blame falls on the owner.
