Possibly the strangest thing to happen on NFL Sunday was that the number one player in the league according to his peers, Tyreek Hill was arrested hours before the game. Hill was taken into custody hours before the Week 1 kickoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tyreek Hill Arrested Hours Before Week 1 Matchup

Hill was reportedly pulled over by an officer after a traffic violation and was then placed in handcuffs. Not only that, but the officer spread Hill out on the pavement. The reports claimed that Hill got into a verbal altercation with one of the officers.
Hill has since responded about the entire altercation, but the Police revealed the original report earlier on Sunday:
“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game,” the team announced.
Later on in the day, the Miami Police Department revealed that one of the officers who took Hill into custody has been given a punishment and that the department will conduct a full investigation on the matter:
“Following the incident involving Tyreek Hill, I have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation to ensure a thorough review of the matter. One of the officers involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation is conducted,” the statement reads.
“I’m committed to transparency and accountability to the community with any situation involving my officers.”

Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill Shares His Take On The Arrest

While the police originally reported that Hill got into a verbal argument with an officer, the receiver said that was not what had transpired. Hill proposed quite a thought-provoking question, what if this was not him and just a random citizen.
“Right now, I’m still trying to put it all together … But I do want to say, I do want to be able to use this platform to say, what if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill?” he asked, per ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques.
When Hill was notified about the officer being put on administrative leave and the pending investigation, he responded with:
“That tells you all you need to know,” he said.
The police department noted that their investigation will “ensure a thorough review of the matter.”
The best player in the NFL can’t be held back by an arrest of course, and Hill dominated the game and was crucial to the Dolphins’ win in week 1. He grabbed seven catches for 130 yards and a touchdown.
We will have to wait and see what further actions are taken in the investigation of the officer, and for now he is on leave.
