Even though Pro Bowler Michael Thomas isn’t the player he used to be, there’s still some value to be had within him. As it stands, there are three ideal landing spots for him in the league before the new season starts.
Thomas is an American football wide receiver who was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played college football at Ohio State University, where he was a member of the 2014 national championship team.
During his rookie season with the Saints in 2016, Thomas set franchise records for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns by a rookie. He continued to excel in the following seasons, earning three Pro Bowl selections and being named NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 after leading the league in receptions and receiving yards.
Thomas holds the NFL record for most receptions in a single season with 149 in 2019. He has been a consistent and dominant receiver for the Saints, leading the league in receptions in both 2018 and 2019. Despite some injuries in recent years, he has established himself as one of the top wide receivers in the NFL.
Off the field, the WR has faced some legal troubles, but he remains a key part of the Saints’ offense and a valuable asset to the team. His impressive career accomplishments and statistical dominance have cemented his status as one of the premier wide receivers in the league.
NFL Analysis Names 3 Teams as Possible Landing Spots for Michael Thomas
As it stands, Thomas isn’t signed yet for the upcoming season. According to an article written by Kristopher Knox for Bleacher Report, there are three NFL teams suitable for the Pro Bowler.
“While a return to Pro Bowl form is unlikely for Thomas, the 6’3″, 212-pound pass-catcher can still help an NFL offense. He caught 39 passes for 448 yards and a touchdown in 10 games with the New Orleans Saints last season and can still serve as a solid third or fourth option for a team lacking at the receiver position.
Thomas could help a team like New England or Pittsburgh—though he isn’t the Steelers’ “type of receiver,” according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
A reunion with Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton could also make sense, as Denver is looking to develop rookie quarterback Bo Nix and has few proven options behind Courtland Sutton,” Knox wrote.
Thomas remains unsigned as a free agent. However, it’s expected that he will sign with a team soon, as veteran players often wait until late in the offseason to find a new home.
Despite his recent injury history, he is still viewed as a talented receiver who can contribute to an NFL team. If any of the three teams acquire Thomas, expect the former Pro Bowler to land in a situation that will suit him well.
