The NFL world was in celebration over the announcement that superstar Kendrick Lamar was going to be performing the halftime show for the Super Bowl. When the Super Bowl was announced in New Orleans however, many fans thought there was an obvious choice for the show – Lil Wayne.
Lil Wayne Shares Pain Of NFL Super Bowl Halftime Snub
Kendrick is an incredible choice for the halftime show and will certainly give the fans an incredible performance. However, many fans were also distraught over the fact that Lil Wayne was not the choice in New Orleans.
Fans thought that a New Orleans native should have been the choice for the show, and there would have been no better choice than Wayne. Instead, the league opted to go for the ultra-popular and incredibly talented Lamar.
You can’t go wrong with Kendrick as many consider him one of the greatest to ever do it, but on the flip side, Wayne was incredibly broken from the snub in New Orleans. This clearly meant a lot to Wayne, and he has now broken his silence on missing out on the opportunity and the pain that comes with it:
“That hurt, it hurt a lot,” said Lil Wayne, speaking about the situation in an Instagram post.
“I thought there was nothing better that spot, on that stage, on that platform. It broke me, but I’m just trying to put myself back together.”
There were an incredible amount of fans and other stars like Nicki Minaj who were very upset that Wayne was not the choice for the show in his hometown.
“I had to get strength enough to do this without breaking. I’ma say thank you to every voice, every opinion, all the care, all the love and support out there. Your words turned to arms and held me up when I tried to fall back,” Wayne said in his Instagram video.
“I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. For just automatically mentally putting myself in that position like someone told me that was my position.”

Jay Z and his company Roc Nation decided with the NFL to go with Kendrick, and there is a chance that Lamar will offer Wayne to join him at times on the stage. While that would be an incredible full-circle moment, it’s hard to imagine that Wayne would be interested in that based on how he feels about the snub.
