Many NFL legends in the media are destroying the Carolina Panthers on Sunday as the “laughing stock” of the league. The Panthers benched their No. 1 pick Bryce Young this past week, and for many reasons, plenty of former stars and coaches are hammering the organization.
NFL Hall of Famers Rip The Carolina Panthers
Randy Moss, Rex Ryan, Jimmy Johnson, and Alex Smith, to name a few, were all hammering the Panthers on Sunday for obvious reasons.
Moss condemned the franchise as the worst in the league for their handling of their top pick Young and not giving any type of stability:
“I think the Carolina Panthers failed this young man,” Moss said, via Awful Announcing. “He’s had three coaches in 18 games, so where is the development coming at as the franchise player, the first overall pick?”
Moss labeled Carolina the NFL’s new “laughingstock.”
“And it’s not because of how they’re playing,” he added. “It’s everything from ownership all the way down.”
Carolina opted for their veteran Andy Dalton to take over but still plan on playing Young again later on in the season. The organization has made so many mistakes in a row to lead to this situation, and all the former players and coaches are calling them out.
Former coach Rex Ryan added to Moss’s comments saying that their hire of head coach Dave Canales was ‘horrible:
“I knew it was gonna be a disaster,” Ryan claimed. “I thought it was the worst hire ever … For that kid’s development, I thought it was terrible.”
Former Super Bowl champion Tedy Bruschi also chimed in saying that he would want to be traded if he was Young.
The Entire NFL Countdown Rips The Carolina Panthers
The entire ESPN Sunday crew got into it with the Panthers, with each of the legends pointing out different issues with the team. Moss continued to destroy the team with Alex Smith:
“I think the Carolina Panthers have failed this young man,” Randy Moss said. “Because Alex (Smith), you just said he’s had three coaches in 18 games. Where is the development coming at, the franchise player, the first overall pick. One thing that I’ll say is, the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. And then it came with the Cleveland Browns. Right now, the laughingstock of the National Football League is the Carolina Panthers.”
Smith was critical about the move to put in Dalotn, saying that of course that may give the team a better chance to win right now, but it’s all about developing your future in Young. The team could’ve done the same thing last season but they opted to start Young, and Smith feels like you have to see that all the way through:
“Listen, I heard that this week when he (Dave Canales) said Andy Dalton gives us the best chance to win. What about last year? Of course that was true. You decided to start him and go through this process and now two weeks into his second year you’re bailing on it. This organization is a disaster. The idea of an organization is to accumulate talent, not give it away. Oh, we trade away Christian McCaffery, we trade away DJ Moore, Brian Burns. Let’s just give away our best players.
The organization is indeed a disaster.
“You have no idea how to identify talent and keep it. Oh, by the way, Baker Mayfield had a stop there. He wasn’t good enough. Now he’s just crushing you in the division. Sam Darnold, he wasn’t good enough. I pray that Bryce gets out of there. The word is out, nobody wants to go there. I mean, they couldn’t get a head coach. That’s why they ended up with Dave Canales. No free agents are going to sign there. You could not pay me enough money to play for the Carolina Panthers.”

Legendary head coach Jimmy Johnson added to the roast session of the Panthers by hammering the team’s owner as the main problem for the team:
“Why has he had all these coordinators and all these head coaches? The owner of the Carolina Panthers. That’s the problem. He’s making the major decisions without listening to his football people,” Johnson said.
