NFL fans are absolutely shocked by former Pro Bowl running back Tarik Cohen officially deciding to call it quits. The former Chicago Bears and New York Jets pro is retiring per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Former All Pro And Pro Bowler Tarik Cohen Shockingly Retires
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to break the news:
“Former Bears’ RB Tarik Cohen, who was attempting to come back from assorted knee injuries throughout his NFL career, informed the Jets today that he is retiring from football, effectively immediately,” Schefter wrote. “At his peak, Cohen was one of the NFL’s most explosive players.”
Cohen had began his career in the league with so much promise, as he had earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors with the Bears. He had the speed and power combination that is rare even in the NFL. Sadly, he had suffered numerous injuries and was not able to play the last three seasons.
The Jets had signed him with the intention to have him on special teams, but clearly that won’t be happening anymore. What makes the retirement even more surprising is that Cohen said earlier in the week that he feels “all the way back.” Fans expected to see him on the field with the Jets this fall, but sadly that wont happen.
“I definitely feel all the way back,” Cohen said, via Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. “I’m just trying to show the Jets the explosiveness that I have, the smartness that I’ve gained from being in the league, and lift as I rise — help all the guys in my position group.”
NFL Fans Are Shocked And Saddened By Tarik Cohen Retirement
Fans were all saddened by the news as Cohen has decided to end his career, especially after he worked so hard to try and make a comeback from his brutal injuries. Fans were quick to social media to share their support for Cohen and their shock by the announcement:
“Real ones remember how special Tarik Cohen was for the #Bears. Congrats on a successful career, @TarikCohen !” one user wrote, sharing a highlight reel of his career in Chicago.
“Tarik Cohen, who when he entered into the league was one of the most exciting and explosive players in the league. After several injuries Cohen has announced his retirement from the NFL. Thank you for all the memories @TarikCohen,” another fan wrote.
“After attempting a comeback with the Jets, Tarik Cohen announced his retirement today. Nothing but love for him in Chicago,” a third declared.
Just a few days prior to this announcement, Cohen had claimed every day to be a blessing and that he will put his best forward for the future.
“I just treat every day like it’s a blessing, come out and just put my best foot forward and remember all the times I was at home watching everybody on TV,” Cohen said, via SNY Jets.
From all of us at Gridiron, we wish Cohen all the best in his future endeavors.
