NFL Fans Are In Shock Over New England Patriots Week 1 Massive Upset Victory

NFL fans could not believe what they were seeing from the New England Patriots in their first game under new head coach Jerod Mayo. The team pulled off a gutsy 16-10 upset over the Cincinnati Bengals, and they were more than a touchdown underdog to enter the game.

The Patriots did not see any major success from their quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who had just 121 passing yards. The team only put up 16 points but had an incredible performance from their defense, and a monster game rushing from Rhamondre Stevenson who had 120 of the team’s 170 rushing yards.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was no better than Brissett, as he threw for just 224 yards and was not able to get anything going throughout the entire game.

Fans around the league did not expect anything from Mayo’s Patriots as they are in the middle of a huge rebuild. This may be setting up their top draft pick Drake Maye to sit for a bit longer. The team showed they can grind out games and won’t give up anything easy. What was most important for Patriots fans to see, is that these players will play their heart out for their new coach.

The Bengals, on the other hand, could not believe what they were seeing as they have Super Bowl aspirations, and their season has started with a brutal loss.

NFL fans and member of the media gave Mayo his flowers on his team’s first victory of the season, and many shared their shockaty how the game played out:

“A stunner. The Patriots win as the biggest underdogs of Week 1, upsetting Cincinnati 16-10,” the Boston Herald‘s Andrew Callahan wrote. “The Pats win their first season opener since 2020. The Jerod Mayo era is here.”

“The start of something beautiful,” Hezekiah Johnson said.

“Patriots just showed the NFL world the only way they can win this year. Playing UNREAL defense and RUNNING THE LEATHER OFF THE DAMN FOOTBALL. Congrats to Jerod Mayo on his first win as a Head Coach,” Robert Griffin III said.

“Zac Taylor and the Bengals remain the worst Week 1 team in the NFL,” Marcus Mosher declared.
