While NFL fans were treated to an exceptional Sunday night football game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions, the announcing was not up to par with the game itself. Fans were taking to social media throughout the game to rip announcer Cris Collinsworth for some of his takes, but then it all blew up in overtime.
NFL Announcer Cris Collinswroth Forgets The Rules
Fans were ripping the NBC announcer for many different things he said throughout the Sunday Night Football broadcast, but in overtime, Collinsworth made it too easy by forgetting the game’s rules.
The Lions completed another victory over their former quarterback and the Rams in a 26-20 overtime victory. The game was a thriller from start to finish with an extra amount of chippiness because this was a revenge game from last year’s postseason.
The Lions’ running back David Montgomery ended the game when he rushed for a touchdown in overtime, but Collinsworth did not seem to remember the rules during overtime.
Cris has been an announcer for decades now but that did not stop him from forgetting the overtime rules on Sunday night. It was a rough moment on air for him and for his partner Mike Trico.
Collinsworth was seemingly pushing for Detroit to kick a field goal and win the game, forgetting that only a touchdown now ends the game. Trico had to subtly inform him that the field goal won’t end the game. It was extremely awkward, to say the least:
"You start thinking about it, right? You start thinking about how much do you need before you're gonna go line up and kick it? You start thinking about which side do you want your kicker to be able to kick it from?"

Tirico responded: “Try to score, don’t let the Rams have a chance to even touch the ball.”
