One of the NFL’s most legendary broadcasters Al Michaels may be nearing the end of his career in the booth. Amazon recently gave a huge contract to Michales so he would join their network, in hopes that Amazon will become one of the staple broadcasters for NFL games.
However, it has now been two weeks that Michaels has been underwhelming, to say the least. Michales called the not-so-engaging game of the New York Jets destroying the New England Patriots on Thursday night. While the game was not the most entertaining, Michaels delivered a performance to go with it.
At times in the second half, he did not even seem to know what was going on in different plays, and he kept discussing other topics outside of football, like baseball’s Shohei Ohtani’s legendary performance during a pretty important drive.
NFL Fans Are All Calling For Al Michaels To Retire
Even during the middle of the game, fans have heard enough from the legendary broadcaster, who famously called “The Miracle on Ice.” Fans have all taken to social media in the last two weeks to firstly recognize the all-time greatness that Michales has given fans but also to highlight that it’s time for him to retire.
Michaels is truly a legendary broadcaster across the board with the world he has done in his career, and he has been a voice in American homes for decades. However, fans think it’s time to call it a career as he has gotten older.
There were many times throughout the games he has called so far where it seems like he does not even know what is going on in the game. There have also been many crazy plays in which he has shown zero emotion or energy when calling. Because of the last two games of Michales on air, fans are all calling for him to walk away.

Al Michaels calling the Miracle on Ice now:
“Five seconds left. The Americans are celebrating. They think they’ve won the game. They think it’s over. No signal yet. The Americans are celebrating like they won, but we still don’t know if it- yep, now they ruled the game is over” https://t.co/oDZUyQBCOW

“Al Michaels needs to retire. There’s a fumble. Defense is celebrating. And bro says “there’s some sort of skirmish down there”. He’s not even watching the game,” one user remarked, referring to a play where a Patriots running back was stripped of the ball in a fumble.
“Al Michaels needs to retire he’s literally just going through the motions out there,” wrote another.
“Al Michaels should retire. He’s one of the greatest to ever do it, a hall of famer. He’s just too old to be exciting. He should be spending the rest of his life with family,” a third wrote.
“Al Michaels thought he was out of bounds but it turned out to be the game-winning touchdown. They had to cut the highlight early because of his call,” another fan tweeted.
“Al Michaels is one of the greats but I thought there was a flag down the whole play because he never got excited during the run,” another fan tweeted.
While Michaels defended himself from this criticism it does not seem like things are going to change. What have you made of Michaels’s performance so far? Has he gotten too old, or do you think there are still a few more years for him left?
