Usually, it takes time in the NFL season before cutting starters, and teams want to see what they have before moving on. That did not stop the Washington Commanders from cutting one of the starters after just a single game of the 2024 season. The interesting part is that fans are all in agreement over the decision.
Washington Commanders Cut Starting Kicker One Game In

Just one day after their first game for the 2024 campaign, the Commanders cut their starting kicker Cade York.
York made both of his extra points on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he missed both of his field goal attempts in their stomping week 1 loss. York is a former fourth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns back in 2022, he lasted just one year with the Browns and was then bouncing around from team to team last season.
He appeared in one regular season game as a starter last season, and it seems like that will be the same for him this year. Washington and the fans have seen enough, and they will look for a new kicker for the rest of this season.

If Cade York leaves now he can catch the next @SouthwestAir flight from Tampa to DC. The @Commanders obviously won't miss the guy. #WASvsTB pic.twitter.com/EvrmJ3p2Bn

“Deserved,” said one person about the news.
“short leash good lord lmao,” said another commenter.
“Damn, they should have paid me a game check to miss two field goals instead,” joked a third person.
In York’s place, the Commanders signed Austin Seibert, who has kicked for the Browns, Bengals, Lions and Jets in his career.
“I mentioned his name quite a bit before the season started. Seibert is a vet who has kicked for multiple teams. His career long is 53 Yards. Hopefully he solves the issue at the kicker spot #RaiseHail,” one Commanders fan said.
“One former #Browns kicker replaces another one in Washington,” said a Browns writer.
You don't see this everyday.#Browns Kicker Cade York was apparently sharing highlights of himself during halftime of the #Eagles game last night.
York missed a FG during the game, twice, so he ended up deleting the post.
The game ended 18-18 tie.
