The NFL’s best team the Kansas City Chiefs have been doing quite well without their former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The team performed incredibly well with Bieniemy on their staff, but after he was not able to get a head coaching job in the league, he went to college football back in February. In just a short period of time, he has already been fired.
UCLA Fires Eric Bieniemy After Just 1 Season In College Football
While the Chiefs won Super Bowls with Eric as their offensive coordinator, he was never able to find a head coaching job in the NFL, and there is good reason for that. Outside of Kansas City, Bieniemy was never productive anywhere else, and after moving to college football his lack of success followed him.
After he became the offensive coordinator for the UCLA Bruins, it only took one season for them to fire him. On Thursday, Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports reported that the program relieved Eric of his coaching duties.
The team averaged just 18.4 points per game ranking 126th in the country on offense, and their offense was just not good all season. The team failed to score even 20 points in 8 games this past season and no team in the nation would allow for such a poor performance.
It is quite sad that Eric went from the OC for the best team in football, and now is being fired from poor college football programs. He may still have other opportunities to coach in college or the NFL, but it seems that his chances of being a head coach are done. The Chiefs could always consider bringing him back, but the team is 11-1 and doing just fine without him.
NFL and college football fans have bene reacting to the news on social media on Thursday:
“Eric Bieniemy still hasn’t had a single successful season as a primary play caller at any level of football after over 20 years of coaching. We won’t see an industry plant like him again,” said one fan.
“Cue Chiefs fans wanting him back instantly as OC even though this team is 11-1 and top 10 in every offensive statistic that matters,” said another fan.
“From ‘Why isn’t he an NFL head coach?’ to this,” one fan said.
“Bieniemy appears to be the only coordinator/coach in football history that both doesn’t deserve credit for when his teams are good and bears the brunt of the blame for when he takes on challenging jobs that don’t work out,” another fan added.
“Few coaching stars have burned out as quickly as Bieniemy’s. My God,” said one fan.
“Remember when people wanted this bozo to get a HC job?? You give me the best QB of a generation and I’ll win games too,” said another fan.
We will have to wait and see if Eric can get another job at some level of football, and the chances are high that he does. However, there is no longer any chance that he will be getting a head coaching job anywhere.
