The NFL has not seen Colin Kaepernick since the 2016 season, but that is apparently not stopping the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback for making a push back to the league this year. While he has been making headlines in the AI business world the last few months, now Kaepernick is being vocal about making a return to football.
Colin Kaepernick Shockingly Says He Wants To Return To NFL
As discussed on Gridiron previously, Colin has been pushing to get back on a roster:
The 36-year-old quarterback has been spotted training in videos posted on Instagram. Last year, he sent a letter to the New York Jets asking them to let him work out for the team after Aaron Rodgers’ injury. The Jets didn’t take him up on the offer.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Kaepernick said he’s still training in the hopes he can convince an owner to sign him this season:
“We’re still training, still pushing,” Kaepernick said. “So hopefully. We’ve just got to get one of these team owners to open up.”
Kaepernick was willing to start on the practice squad last year. His ambition this year is to win a Super Bowl:
“I mean, it’s something I’ve trained my whole life for.” So to be able to step back on the field would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. Also, I think it’s something that I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.”
While Colin may feel that he is still good enough to be on an NFL roster, there is a certain insider that was quick to turn down that idea quite emphatically.
NFL Insider Thinks Colin Kaepernick Is Truly Delusional
Over the many years that Mike Florio has covered the league for Pro Football Talk, and more, he has been one of the biggest and most vocal supporters for Kaepernick. He was specifically a vocal supporter during the roughest time in Kaepernick career when he was basically kicked out of the league for his protesting during the games.
Even with all of that support through the years, Florio thinks that all of that “comes off as delusional” if he thinks there’s any chance of getting back on an NFL roster.
“I firmly believe the NFL colluded against him in 2017, with a business decision that catered to the 30 percent of the fan base that hates him and ignoring the 30 percent of the fan base that loves him. (The league ultimately settled his collusion grievance),” Florio wrote. “I also firmly believe that it’s over for Kaepernick, and that it has been.
“He’ll be 37 in November. He hasn’t played since January 1, 2017. At this point, it’s just not happening.”
The whole Kaepernick saga has been well documented, and since he was cut from the league there have been moments where there seemed like there was potential for a return, but by now, that is just never going to happen.
