Jonathan Taylor was put on the trade block by the Colts. The question was whether the team could find a team that was willing to pay the steep asking price. After much searching and many teams seriously inquiring, it looks like Taylor will remain with the Colts. We knew some of the teams interested but there was one mystery team. We now reportedly know who that team was, the Green Bay Packers.
Jonathan Taylor Drew Interest From The Green Bay Packers
According to an article written by Stephen Holder, the Packers were in talks with the Colts and had legitimate interest in the star running back. A former Wisconsin Badger, Taylor would be a familiar face in the state. Sources say that the team is still interested and the trade could still happen before the October 31st deadline. The holdup seems to be the asking price by the Colts. While they do not want to pay him, they believe he is worth a premium pick, reportedly a first-rounder. I would be shocked if any team, especially the Packers, gave up this for Taylor. However, if the asking price comes down, talks could reengage.
What Does This Mean For Jones And Dillon?
What is curious about this report is the Packers are not lacking in the running back room. Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon are a great duo but maybe the Packers are less enamored. Jones is approaching 30 which is usually when running backs start to decline. Dillon had a down year and maybe the team is souring on him. It remains to be seen what this means for the running back room. The hope is that both Jones and Dillon are still dominant behind the good offensive line and the Packers do not feel the need to make a trade.
Of all the teams, I don’t think that many had the Green Bay Packers in the Jonathan Taylor sweepstakes. This will be something to watch as October 31st approaches.
