NFL fans are shocked by the betting line shift in the Thursday night football game between the New York Jets and the Houston Texans. The Jets come in as slight favorites in a game against one of the best teams in the AFC. New York on the other hand is one the worst teams in the AFC, so what does Vegas know?
The Jets are in a must-win situation tonight as another loss would place them at 2-7 and effectively done on the season. The Texans on the other hand, are very solid at 6-2 and are just missing some of the key players. Perhaps the mounting injuries for Houston and the desperation for New York is why the line is so strange, but fans are shocked nonetheless.
NFL Fans Are in Shock That the Jets Are Favored
The team has dropped six of their first eight games this season, with their latest defeat being a close 25-22 loss to the struggling New England Patriots last Sunday.
Despite their 2-6 record, they’re surprisingly favored by 2.5 points over the 6-2 Texans—a move that has left NFL fans scratching their heads, as the Texans have clearly outperformed them this season.
Most fans think the Texans will easily win this game and are ready to put their money on the line to back that belief:
“Easiest Texans moneyline ever,” one tweet read.
“Unless they’re playing the Panthers, I don’t understand how this team can ever be the favorites in any matchup,” another fan tweeted.
“The Jets are 2.5 Point Favorites against the Texans tonight… I’m using this as evidence that I’m not the only idiot who believed in this team this year,” another tweet read.
“The Jets are now -2.5 favorites tonight for some moronic reason,” another fan tweeted.
Perhaps Vegas knows something at the fans do not, they usually do, but this line has got to be one of the more shocking NFL lines all season. The Texans are dealing with tons of injuries, but they should still have more than enough to beat the Jets who can’t beat anyone.
The one narrative is that coming on a short week, the veteran quarterback will be better than the second-year starter, but Rodgers has not proven that he can be better than almost anyone so far this season. Fans can’t get over the 2-6 team being favored by 2.5 points over the 6-2 team. We will have to wait and see if Vegas does indeed know something, and that Houston may be in trouble with their mounting injuries.
The Jets season is also effectively over if they lose, but that desperation may not be enough to take down an incredible team in Houston.
