Following Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s incident with police Sunday, NFL fans took to social media to remind the world that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was on to something when he tried to warn about police brutality in the US.
Hill was detained on Sunday morning when he was traveling to Hard Rock Stadium for the Dolphins’ Week 1 contest against the Jackson Jaguars. The incident was over an alleged traffic violation.
Hill was released on time to play in the Dolphins’ win on Sunday. He trolled police with a handcuff gesture after he scored a touchdown during the game.
Police are investigating the incident after a video leaked online appearing to show Hill being struck by an officer while in custody.
Police union issues statement on Tyreek Hill incident

Per a statement by the South Florida Police Benevolent Association obtained by Andy Slater with Fox Sports 640, the police union is “confident in the actions” for stopping Hill. The union is claiming Hill was “uncooperative” while being detained:
“Before the Dolphins game yesterday, an incident occurred where Tyreek Hill was placed in handcuffs before being released. First, to be clear, at no time was he ever under arrest.
He was briefly detained for officer safety, after driving in a manner in which he was putting himself and others in great risk of danger. Upon being stopped, Mr. Hill was not immediately cooperative with the officers on scene who, pursuant to policy and for their immediate safety, placed Mr. Hill in handcuffs.
Mr. Hill, still uncooperative, refused to sit on the ground and was therefore redirected to the ground. Once the situation was sorted out within a few minutes, Mr. Hill was issued two traffic citations and was free to leave.”
NFL fans remind the world that Colin Kaepernick was right

Kaepernick was blackballed from the league after he took a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality, especially against persons of color. Some fans believe the police’s actions against Hill fit under that umbrella.
Here are some of the top comments on social media of fans reminding the world that Kaepernick was right about police brutality.
Guess being the best NFL WR or having a $120M contract like Tyreek Hill doesn’t insulate police from dehumanizing you & treating you like trash cuz they can. When Colin Kaepernick tried to tell you, stupid ppl on here were like “but you’re a millionaire.” https://t.co/HMUY51jMCk

Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins was detained by police prior to today’s game for no discernable reason. And you MAGA types wonder why Colin Kaepernick kneeled?

Y’all won’t say it so I will the situation that Tyreek Hill faced was exactly the situation that Colin Kaepernick got roasted for.
He took a knee for abuse against black children, black women and black men and ultimately got fired.

If only the NFL had paid attention to Colin Kaepernick all those years ago! If only they had not been so fearful of losing their “white fan base!” If only just one person had the guts to do the right thing! Maybe Tyreek Hill can now champion the changes that need to be addressed

Kaepernick, a spoiled little white boy in a black man’s skin. Kaepernick isn’t about standing up for the rights of African Americans. He isn’t about putting the spot light on “bad cops” and bad policing practices. Kaepernick is about only on thing, Colin Kaepernick.
