The NFL rarely ever sees trades that go down within the same division, but it is even rarer in the NFC East where teams have built up decade-long rivalries. That didn’t stop the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders from getting a deal done to send a former first-round receiver to the Eagles who have an already stacked receiver room.
NFC East Rivals Get Deal Done For Wide Receiver
It is now official that Jahan Dotson will join the Eagles this year, as the trade was reported earlier today.
As reported by Adam Schefter and discussed on Gridiron previously By Matt Lombardo:
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles sent Washington a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks in exchange for Dotson and a fifth-round selection.
Originally chosen in the first-round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Commanders, out of Penn State, Dotson has pulled down 84 of his 144 targets for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns through his first 29 games.
“A rare in-division trade: Washington is sending former first-round pick Jahan Dotson and a fifth-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round picks, per sources,” Schefter wrote.
NFL Fans React To Rare Trade Of NFC East Rivals
Eagles fans have been quick to social media to share that they clearly won the trade against their division rival. The wider NFL fan base is getting a bit nervous about the Eagle’s receiver room now, as Dotson will be, at best, their third weapon at the receiver position. Not to mention their solid tight end room, and new star running back Saquon Barkley.
The team got another good player for pennies on the dollar right before the year. This is why Eagels’ GM Howie Roseman Is thought of as one of the best in the business.
“The Eagles are that guy in your fantasy football league who is in constant contact with the 2-3 worst managers,” one user remarked.
“That is insanely cheap We should have been in on this,” wrote another.
“Eagles can’t keep getting away with this,” a third wrote.
The team already arguably had the best top-two receiver room in the NFL, and now they probably have the best top-three.
Philadelphia will be quite scary if they can put all the pieces together this year. It would make sense for them to start slower this year and get better and better, as opposed to last season where they started strong and then fell apart.
Jahan Dotson, on the other hand, will be able to make a huge impact for a Super Bowl-contending team, while also having zero pressure to be the best or second-best weapon on the team. He should fit in perfectly, as he has the quick movement to get open off the line of scrimmage, and is exactly the type of weapon that could go with the two stars they have in A.J. Brwon and Devonta Smith.
It’s a bit strange that the Commanders would bolster their rival’s receiver room to such a degree, maybe they know something we don’t about the former first-round receiver.
