Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris has shot up the polls in recent weeks, and she appears to be gaining ground with NFL fans before the election and football season.
NFL players could influence election
As previously discussed on GH, Action Network published a survey on league fans and the upcoming election. The survey indicated that nearly one in five male fans could be influenced to vote for a particular presidential candidate if one of their favorite players gave an endorsement on social media.
If that’s true, Republican nominee Donald Trump might need to recruit some NFL players.
NFL fans prefer Kamala Harris
Per the Action Network survey, Harris has the lead on league fans over Trump by three points:
Overall, NFL fans are pretty evenly split between Trump and Harris, with the balance tipping in Harris’s favor. In response to the question “Who do you plan to vote for in the presidential race?” Forty-five percent of respondents said they plan to vote for Kamala Harris, and 42% plan to vote for Donald Trump.
But when we delve into specific demographics, the results change. Gender has a significant effect on the responses, with the majority of men leaning toward Trump (46%), and the majority of women leaning toward Harris (47%).
Younger fans prefer Donald Trump
Gender was one metric that divided respondent’s answers. Age played a factor, too. Per the survey, younger fans favor Trump:
Almost half (45%) of NFL fans aged 18-24 plan to vote for Donald Trump. Support for Harris increases as the age brackets get older — with an average of 46.5% of those aged 45 and over planning to vote for Kamala Harris.
Respondents’ answers varied by team. Sixty-two percent of the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts fanbases plan to vote for Trump, and sixty-one percent of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers plan to vote for Trump.
Harris is doing better in the Northeast. Sixty-one percent of the Baltimore Ravens fanbase respondents plan to vote for Harris. The New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles follow the Ravens, with 54 percent of their fanbases planning to vote for Harris.
