The NFL always has new rules every single season. Some rules get fans to go crazy and they don’t agree with it.

The Detroit Lions were involved in suggesting potential rule changes to the league changes. This always happens every single season and it will be interesting to see if the league goes along with what they suggested or not.
Detroit Lions Suggest Two New Rule Changes For the 2025 NFL Season

There are two different rule changes that the Lions proposed to the league on Wednesday. The first one was to remove the automatic first down for defensive holding and illegal contact penalties. The second one was that Detroit proposed a postseason format to allow Wild Card teams to be seeded higher than division champions if the Wild Card team had a better regular season record.
It remains to be seen how the league will react to this. One of the latest examples this season was the Detroit Lions rival, the Minnesota Vikings finishing with a 14-3 record and having to go on the road in the playoffs and facing the 10-7 Los Angeles Rams. Had Detroit not finished 15-2 and the one seed in the NFC, they would have gone on the road instead in the postseason.

Leave it to the Lions to suggest a playoff system where winning your division is just a participation trophy.

Lions get good for 3 years and think they can run the league smh

It would be a surprise if either of the two rules that the Detroit Lions suggested were overturned by the NFL before the 2025 season. However, if the playoff rule was overturned for next season and beyond, it would be interesting to see how often the wild card team would have the higher seed over the division winner.
