NFL fans are erupting on social media over a shocking move that the Carolina Panthers made just two games into the 2024 season. After just two games this season, the Panthers are benching their No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young. Fans are shocked that the young top draft pick only got a season and two games before getting benched for Andy Dalton.
Carolina Panthers Are Done With Bryce Young
This will go down as the worst trade in the history of the NFL, as one of the best quarterbacks was taken the pick after Young in C.J. Stroud. To make matters worse, the Panthers gave away their No. 1 overall pick from this past draft as well, and that turned out to be one of the best prospects of all time in Caleb Williams.
While it does seem drastic to bench Young after only 18 starts, fans have been calling for his benching after every game he’s played. One former pro lineman, however, thinks that this was the only thing to do for Canales and the Panthers:
“Canales has been there for months and is already out on Young,” Schwartz wrote on social media. “He can’t get his team to see his vision w/Young as the quarterback. He’s got [to] win to grow his culture. Also the players know. Hard to walk into the offensive meeting and continue to sell Young as the QB.”
While players should certainly get more time than just 18 games, this situation seems a little different. Young has not shown a single sign that he is a starting quarterback in the NFL since his first snap. While the Panthers do not have a great roster, and their woes do not fall on Young’s feet, it is also true that he does not look like a starter in this league.

“Nothing short of horrific that we’re here this early but Carolina didn’t have another choice. One thing you can’t do is bs the players. Anyone watching the games knows this isn’t credible football out there. Imagine how the other guys on the field feel,” said Yahoo’s Matt Harmon.
“Wow! That’s basically the end of the Bryce Young era in Carolina,” another person noted.
“Panthers failed Bryce, it’s going to be Josh Rosen 2.0 but even worse. Panthers need to clean house, from ownerships all the way down. Maybe give Dave Canales a real chance but at this point the franchise needs a cleanse,” a third person said.
“They never should have drafted Bryce so it’s a start. Now Tepper needs to limit his role in football operations to writing checks. #KeepPounding,” a Panthers fan added.
“It was time.. no point in wasting another season with him,” another Panthers fan chimed in.
You can’t help but feel bad for both Young and the Panthers as their franchise will be at the very bottom for the foreseeable future.
