There is now a new wealthiest man in NFL history as Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love inked the biggest deal in the history of the league on Friday.
As discussed on GH previously the Miami Dolphins had drove up the prices after paying their quarterback a huge contract:
On Friday, the Miami Dolphins moved the quarterback back market when they handed Tua Tagovailoa a four-year contract extension worth $214.4 million, of which $167 million was guaranteed. Tua is set to make $53.1 million per year, which earlier in the afternoon made him the third-highest-paid quarterback in the league behind Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence.
Love smashed that benchmark a few hours later.
Green Bay Packers Jordan Love Signs Biggest Deal Ever
After the Dolphins pushed the market, Love agreed to the largest extension in the history of the league. He signed a four year $220 million extension on Friday which tied both Joe Burrow, and Trevor Lawrence for the highest paid contract ever.
While Love has been in the league for quite some time, he only got his opportunity to become the starter for the team last year. He was sitting behind Aaron Rodgers for the first few years of his career. Love has been exceptional when he’s been on the field, however that has not been that much time at all. Before this past season Love had only started on game in the NFL.
This monster contract definitely takes a lot of risk with it as well, simply because of the lack of experience on Love’s part. The Packers have believed in Love since drafting him however, as many analysts thought they had reached for the quarterback back in the draft. Love also had an incredible season that almost resulted in an NFC championship birth.
Love totaled: 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions.
Jordan Love and the Packers have agreed to a 4 year $220M contract, that makes him the highest paid QB in NFL history. He also gets a record $75M Signing Bonus plus $155M in new full gurantees. Deal negotiated by David Mulugheta & Andrew Kessler of Athletes First. pic.twitter.com/dKDtzUrakX

NFL Fans Debate If Jordan Love Deserves The Contract
Fans wre every quick to social media to debate this contract, as many feel that Love has not proven himself to be worthy of being the highest paid player in the league. While many fans think Green Bay made the right decision, there are plenty of fans who think this is going to be a huge mistake:
“Unadulterated madness,” said longtime NFL writer Mike Tanier.
“Jordan Love…dude did a lot more with waaaaaay less offensive talent. A lot more = playoff win his 1st yr as a starter. Love has way more upside than Tua,” said a Jets fan about Tua Tagovailoa, who also received a massive contract Friday.
“The two best quarterbacks in football — Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen — are embarrassingly underpaid,” said Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, which is probably a correct statement.
“Never imagined it could be possible so I doubted Jordan Love; he 100% proved me wrong & now the Packers’ Super Bowl window reopens once again,” said an excited Green Bay fan.
“The Jordan Love deal feels a bit like the first contract the Rams gave Jared Goff (though not apples-to-apples),” said Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic. “Makes sense to invest, despite the inexperience. Risk is real. Biggest diff: Goff had back-to-back heater years and a Super Bowl. Love had a great back half last yr.”
We will have to wait and see If Love proves the team right with this contract, it seems that he will, as he can only get better and the team can surround him with much better talent as well. They were by far the youngest roster last year, and they will be able to continue to improve.
What do you think about this insane contract extension?
