Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees is undergoing some extremely concerning health issues.  The long-time New Orleans Saints star was in the league for 20 years (2001-2020).  However, he is now facing an uphill battle for the rest of his life.

It’s heartbreaking for Drew Brees fans to hear he’s struggling with health issues after his playing career ended:

Drew Brees retired after his age-42 season in 2021, walking away as the all-time passing yards and passing touchdowns leader, though Tom Brady surpassed both marks in the ensuing season.

In Nov. 2023, Brees revealed that he can’t throw with his right arm anymore, and that he has to use his left arm just to throw a football outside. Brees added that, he’d still be playing football if he “could.”

The ML Football X/Twitter account reposted the old quote from Drew Brees on Friday night:

HEARTBREAKING: Legendary #Saints QB Drew Brees says that his right arm does NOT WORK due to football injuries.

Drew said that he suffers from “degenerative shoulder” and “all kinds of arthritic changes”

“When I throw in the backyard right now, I throw left-handed”

Football fans were crushed to hear about the post-playing health struggles the future Hall of Fame inductee has endured:

“Damn, this hurts my soul. Love you, Drew,” a fan wrote.

“Such a sad story. The true downside to a post NFL career,” a user said.

“This is heartbreaking. Drew was truly a legend at the game,” another commented.

“The Game don’t Reward Everyone Who love it. Give up years of your life for the Game even after retirement. Sad man,” said a fan.

    “Prayers Up ❤️🙏,” wrote another.

    “Wow sad,” a user wrote.

Brees was remarkably durable from 2005 to 2018, missing only one start (in 2015) due to injury. But missed five games in 2019 with a thumb injury, though the Saints went on to win all five games with Teddy Bridgewater in Brees’ place.

He also missed four games in 2020 after suffering multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung. The Saints won three of four games without him to finish 12-4, but his career ended with a heartbreaking loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round.

The 46-year-old Brees is eligible for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Game class, and he’ll most certainly be chosen. With a Super Bowl 44 ring, Super Bowl MVP honors and the Hall of Fame-level stats, Brees will be the proud owner of a gold jacket in a year’s time.
