It’s a clear consensus among NFL Draft observers that Caleb Williams will be selected first overall by the Chicago Bears. While the future is still uncertain on whether the Bears will use the pick or stick with Justin Fields, it’s clear to everyone that whoever holds the first overall pick will select him with it.
With many already singing praises for Williams, the NFL Combine is nothing more than a formality for the USC Trojan. While he would still try his best in most of the drills, he won’t be worried about the results drastically impacting his draft stock.
However, he is skipping one event that would help the Bears (and other teams that are thinking about trading for the Bears’ pick) have a better grasp of his abilities.
Caleb Williams skips Combine’s passing drills to protect his NFL Draft stock

It’s expected among fans that the talented quarterback will not be participating in the passing drills of the combine. The news, which was first reported by Jordan Schultz, was expected as the top QBs usually wait until their pro days to throw the ball under more comfortable situations.
While this fact may disappoint some fans, it’s not deterring the Chicago Bears from considering Williams as the top player in this year’s draft. Shane Waldron, the Bears offensive coordinator, expresses confidence that the team will be comfortable with working with either Williams or Fields, as reported by The Spun’s Andrew Holleran:
“Yeah, I totally believe that,” Waldron said. “I think in the past experiences with different quarterbacks, different experience levels, whether I was in the coordinator role or in a role as a position coach, I felt that way.
“I felt different quarterbacks have been able to step foot into the system, be able to learn it quickly, and that starts with us being able to teach it in a good and efficient manner where they understand it.”

The Bears will be in good hands if they do select Williams first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. He finished his college career with a bang, throwing for 3633 passing yards, 30 TDs, and a 170.1 passer rating.
