The Miami Dolphins have been dealing with a couple of contract issues with their defensive line this summer. On Sunday, they were able to get one out of the way with Zach Sieler reportedly agreeing to a three-year extension with Miami for a whopping $38.65 million.
Dolphins Reward Zach Sieler With Three-Year Extension
ESPN’s senior insider Adam Schefter first broke the news on Twitter:
“Dolphins are signing DL Zach Sieler today to a three-year contract extension worth up to $38.65 million that includes $20 million guaranteed, per source. The contract was negotiated by Drew and Jason Rosenhaus,” Schefter wrote in his tweet.
That’s obviously a lot of money, which just goes to show how valuable Sieler is for the Dolphins. The 27-year-old has been a key member of Miami’s defense since he joined the squad in 2019, and the Dolphins have now made it abundantly clear that they want to keep him on the squad for the long haul. It came at quite a price for the Dolphins, but it’s money that they are more than willing to spend on a player who seems capable of taking his game to another level in the coming years.
Still No Resolution on Christian Wilkins Front
While the Dolphins may have resolved their contract issue with Sieler, there still appears to be no significant progress on the Christian Wilkins front. The 27-year-old is now entering the final season of his rookie deal, and at this point, it is obvious that he has not found common ground with Miami.
Reports indicate that Wilkins and the Dolphins are far apart in terms of agreeing to a new deal. Wilkins is set to pocket $10.753 million this season, which could very well be his final season in Miami if he is unable to sign a new contract.
It is unclear if Sieler’s new deal will have any impact on Miami’s negotiations with Wilkins.
