It was a great start of the NFL DFS season, and I believe Week 2 is shaping up for another good weekend.

But first let’s get a recap of my cash core from last week.

My lineup finished with a solid 162.6 points, easily landing in the green in all my cash tournaments.

Patrick Mahomes was the right play at QB last week as he finished with a QB league-high 37.9 points. Michael Pittman Jr. joined Mahomes with a fire emoji with a big week, scoring 30.1 DraftKings points at his $5,500 salary.

Christian McCaffrey was a dud for his price 15.7 points, while Dallas Goedert had 9 points.

I was able to squeeze Travis Kelce (29.1 points) and A.J. Dillon (20.1 points) into my lineup as they both finished with fire emojis.

    Onto this week’s top plays!

    trey lance 3Quarterback

    Top Play

Trey Lance, San Francisco ($5,700): Lance gives you the best value at his price this week, and I expect a bounce-back game after the slip-n-slide contest in Chicago.

    Other QBs

    Matthew Stafford, LA Rams ($6,300)

    Derek Carr, Las Vegas ($6,200)

    Matt Ryan, Indianapolis ($5,500)

Stafford should take advantage of the extra rest and the Atlanta defense that allowed Jameis Winston throw for 269 yards and two TDs last week. Carr may have it even easier – he faces an injury-depleted Arizona secondary which allowed Mahomes’ big week. Ryan is the sneaky one of the three, but he has a good history playing on the road vs. bottom 10 defenses, according to Bob Lung’s Consistency Guide.

    Running back

    Top Play

Saquon Barkley, NY Giants ($7,300): Barkley had a massive week vs. the Titans and now he returns for a home game vs. Carolina defense that allowed 217 rushing yards to Cleveland. Sign me up for a sub-$8,000 Barkley!

    Value plays

    James Conner, Arizona ($6,900)

    Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas ($5,800)

    James Robinson, Jacksonville ($5,600)

Conner was the Cardinals’ workhorse back through the first three quarters in last week’s blowout loss to the Chiefs. Jacobs and Robinson are sneaky picks. If the Raiders jump to an early big lead, Jacobs could see plenty of touches. Robinson is averaging 14.2 points in his two career games vs. the Colts.

    Cheap play

Rachaad White, Tampa Bay ($4,500): Leonard Fournette enters the game vs. New Orleans with a questionable tag with a hamstring issue. White is next in line for a possible heavy workload in this NFC South matchup if Fournette is out.

    davante adams 1Wide receiver

    Top play

Davante Adams, Las Vegas ($8,600): The Raiders will be throwing early and often against the porous Arizona secondary and Adams will be building on his 17 target game last week. He finished with 10 catches with 141 yards and a TD.

    Value plays

    Michael Thomas, New Orleans ($5,800)

    Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh ($5,800)

Allen Robinson II, LA Rams ($5,500)

The better the competition, the better Thomas plays, at least in the past. Johnson continues to be target monster no matter who the QB is in Pittsburgh. Robinson’s debut with the Rams was a dud, but coach Sean McVay said they need to get him the ball.

    Cheap plays

    Greg Dortch, Arizona ($3,500)

    Richie James, NY Giants ($3,200)

    Ashton Dulin, Indianapolis ($3,200)

Dortch could be busy again this week, while James had six targets last week. Someone has to catch passes from Matt Ryan with Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce both out and Dulin is that man.

    mark andrews 1Tight end

    Top play

Mark Andrews, Baltimore ($6,400): Even in a non-competitive game, Andrews had seven targets last week, and he has averaged 21.55 points a game vs. the Dolphins in his career.

    Value plays

    Zach Ertz, Arizona ($4,500)

    Tyler Higbee, LA Rams ($4,200)

Just like Dortch, Ertz could have a busy day, and Higbee saw a big target share in the Rams’ first game.

    Cheap play

Tyler Conklin, NY Jets ($3,400): Conklin had seven targets and caught his only red zone target for a TD last week.

    DraftKings Cash Core

    QB: Trey Lance, San Francisco

    RB: Saquon Barkley, NY Giants

WR: Davante Adams, Las Vegas (I’m playing him in the flex with the late start time)

    TE: Tyler Conklin, NY Jets

    GPP Stacks

Matt Ryan, James Robinson, Ashton Dulin

Derek Carr, Davante Adams, Darren Waller, Greg Dortch

Lamar Jackson, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Mark Andrews

Last Week’s DK by the Numbers

Cash Core: QB: Patrick Mahomes II 37.9

    RB: Christian McCaffrey 15.7

    WR: Michael Pittman Jr. 30.1

    TE: Dallas Goedert 9.0

QB: Matt Ryan 20.28, Davis Mills 16.5, Daniel Jones 18.02.

RB: DeAndre Swift 29.5, Najee Harris 10.6, Antonio Gibson 20.0, Mike Davis 1.1, Ameer Abdullah 0.

    WR: Justin Jefferson 42.4, Rashod Bateman 13.9, D.J. Chark 15.2, Randall Cobb 3.4, Romeo Doubs 8.8, Justin Watson 0, Wan’Dale Robinson 1.5.

TE: Travis Kelce 29.1, Evan Engram 6.8.

Danny Carpenter has been writing for Gridiron Heroics since August 2022. I have played fantasy football since 1993 when you had to call your commissioner to submit a lineup, the Monday edition of the USAToday was the holy grail for NFL boxscores and NFL Countdown was the place for early stats. I will be writing articles on the Steelers and fantasy football. Any fantasy football questions, just ask!

        Thanks brother!

At first I was on Campbell, but Dulin is cheaper and Ryan looked his way a lot last week.
