The Detroit Lions have a ton of expectations going into the 2023 season. Super Bowl aspirations? Maybe not. At least divisional champion aspirations? Many fans believe they have a real chance to do so. In order to accomplish that the Lions are going to need quality quarterback play all season long. In the event Jared Goff goes down, the Lions brought in someone who can compete for a starting job.
Detroit Lions Sign Former Starting Quarterback David Blough
It has been a year since David Blough parted ways with the Detroit Lions, but the team has brought him back as part of the practice squad for the upcoming season.
Originally, he signed with the Cleveland Browns after being undrafted out of Purdue in 2019. However, a few days after the conclusion of the preseason in 2019 he was traded to the Detroit Lions. During the 2019 season, he would appear in seven games, including five starts, and he would spend the next three seasons in Detroit.
During last year’s training camp, he was competing with Tim Boyle to be Jared Goff’s backup, but both struggled and were subsequently released before the season began. To fill the backup role in 2022, the team decided to sign Nate Sudfeld.
The Lions have decided to bring back a familiar face to their franchise in hopes to deepen their quarterback room.
