NFL: The Denver Broncos are looking to bounce back from their dismal 2022 season.  After trading for Russell Wilson, the team had Super Bowl aspirations.  Instead, they finished 5-12 on the year and fired their first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett.  The team then brought in veteran head coach Sean Payton and have been optimistic about their future.  However, that future suffered a sizable loss today at practice.

Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy left Thursday’s joint practice with the Rams on a cart.  Media members at the session report that Jeudy pulled up and grabbed at his right leg during a drill.  Jeudy appeared to be grabbing at the area around his hamstring.

There’s been no word from the Broncos about Jeudy’s condition at this point.

The Broncos have already suffered one season-ending injury to their receiving corps this summer as Tim Patrick tore his Achilles. The team also waived KJ Hamler after he was diagnosed with pericarditis, although there has been talk of bringing him back at some point later in the year.

Jeudy, 24, was looking to build on a promising 2022 performance. He set multiple career bests last year, catching 67 passes for 972 yards and six touchdowns. Expectations for Jeudy were even higher entering 2023, especially after the team brought in Payton as its new head coach.

If Jeudy is sidelined for regular-season games, Courtland Sutton and rookie Marvin Mims Jr., whom the team selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, are likely in line for more targets from Russell Wilson. Sutton was always expected to start and be a major factor in the Broncos’ offense. Mims’ playing time was more of a question before Tim Patrick sustained an Achilles tear in camp. If Jeudy also misses time, that could vault Mims into even more work.
