The Denver Broncos lost a thriller to the Washington Commanders on Sunday. It was yet another heartbreaking loss for a team that is trying to rebound after a disastrous 2022. However, Wilson hit a personal milestone on Sunday and made NFL history.
Denver Broncos Russell Wilson Makes NFL History
Wilson picked up 56 yards rushing which put him over an important milestone. He is now the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for 5,000 yards and pass for 40,000 yards in a career. He trails only Michael Vick and Cam Newton in rushing but neither of those players ever eclipsed 40,000 passing yards. While Wilson may be hitting a decline in his career, there is no arguing that he has had a highly productive time in the NFL.
Likely To Be Joined By Others
It would not surprise me if others join this exclusive club. Josh Allen (3,123 rushing, 18,633 passing) seems well on his way. Lamar Jackson will easily hit the rushing yards but due to his injury history, the passing yards might be tough to get. Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes are other candidates who may join this exclusive club at some point. With the rise of the dual-threat quarterback in the NFL, it is likely that many will hit these milestones in the coming years.
The Denver Broncos are hoping to see more of the old Russell Wilson in 2023. The collapse against the Washington Commanders was not a good sign and now the team finds them in an 0-2 hole in a tough AFC. They are going to have to make some big changes if they are going to compete in 2023.
