NFL AFC South Preview: Titans vs. Colts
It’s week 4 in the NFL and it’s time for a preview of an important game in the AFC South. The Tennessee Titans enter October with a record of 1-2, having earned a close home victory against the Las Vegas Raiders. This home win eased some of the concerns generated over the previous two losses.
Now, the Tennessee Titans head to Indianapolis to face the Colts who are coming off a huge home win of their own. Fresh, off a home upset win, the Colts hope to add momentum against their divisional foe.
The Titans, who looked better against the Raiders, need this divisional road win to keep pace in an up-and-down AFC South.
Keys for Tennessee
There is no secret Tennessee needs to run the ball successfully to win just about any game they play. In the Titans first two losses, star RB Derrick Henry averaged a meager 1.4 yards after contact per rush (Pro Football Reference). Last week against the Raiders, he averaged 2.7.
According to NFL.com the Colts have only allowed 2.6 yards per carry so far this season. Alternatively, they have only forced a handful of turnovers with 1 interception and 2 fumble recoveries.
This sets up Tannehill well to feel comfortable with the play-action game. The Titans could get something going in this regard with rookie WR Treylon Burks. So far in his promising career he is avering 14.4 yards per reception. Getting him involved in the redzone could net him his first career touchdown.
Notables on the Injury Report So Far:
Titans beat reporter Jim Wyatt tweeted on Thursday that Treylon Burk was back to full practice after missing Wednesday with illness.
Also per Jim Wyatt: TE Austin Hooper, Neck, Limited
S Amari Hooker, Concussion, Did Not Practice
LB Zack Cunningham, Elbow, Did Not Practice
This AFC South Division matchup kicks off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 2nd.
