After predicting the AFC playoffs last week, today I switch over to the NFC side. Like the AFC rounds, I am going off my predictions from last week on who would make the playoffs from the NFC. I have the Sn Francisco 49ers as the number one overall seed? Is this the year the Niners get back to the Super Bowl and get over the hump? Here is what I think happens in the NFC Postseason.
NFC Wild Card Round: (2) Detroit Over (7) Los Angeles Rams, (5) Green Bay Over (4) Atlanta, (3) Philadelphia Over (6) Dallas
I don’t see there being any huge upsets. The NFC seems to be top loaded. Green Bay is only a five seed because the top four seeds belong to division winners regardless of record. I think Green Bay has a better record than Atlanta despite being the road team. They should be able to sneak way with a victory.
I think whoever wins the NFC East makes it to the divisional round. I mentioned last week the Eagles and Cowboys could come down to the week 17 game in Philadelphia. With how good the NFC North is, I don’t see two NFC East teams making the divisional round. Whoever is the home team wins that game.
I don’t see the Rams going into Detroit and winning on the toad. The Lions are becoming one of the tougher road environments for any opposing team in the NFL.
NFC Divisional Round: (1) San Francisco Over (5) Green Bay, (3) Philadelphia Over (2) Detroit
Green Bay is still one year away in my opinion. They were so close last season to pulling off the road NFC Divisional win in San Francisco. If Anders Carlson makes the kick in the last few minutes, the Packers likely win that game. The 49ers did not play well in that game and I can’t see them playing like that in the postseason this year. However, Green Bay won’t be intimidated. The Niners win a close one.
Philadelphia and Detroit would be another great game. The Eagles finished last season poorly and played horrible at Tampa Bay in a game they were better on paper. I think they will look to have a better showing. Give me the Eagles offense in what would likely be an offensive shootout.
NFC Championship: (1) San Francisco Over (3) Philadelphia
At the end of the day, despite not playing well at home in the playoffs last year, the 49ers found a way against Green Bay and Detroit to win those games late. There does have to be some luck on your side, but you have to be good in order to get that luck.
On paper, San Francisco still has one of, if not, the best roster in football. Brock Purdy is about to be really expensive in two years. This feels like they have another year or two to climb over the hump and win the Super Bowl. I don’t see them struggling at home two postseasons in a row with how good the roster is.
