The New York Jets defeated the Carolina Panthers, 15-12, to earn their second preseason win in as many weeks of play.
The Jets were interesting to watch very early on, as the second and third-string players proved themselves and worked to make the roster. For New York, the process of cutting the roster down has already begun as the team has waived multiple players attempting to make the roster. New York exclusively played depth players against the Panthers to get a better feel for who will make the roster this season, and who unfortunately will not.
New York Jets Slip Past Carolina Panthers, 15-12, Behind Great Austin Seibert Performance
In a hard-fought defensive battle, the New York Jets were able to walk away with the victory against the Carolina Panthers in the second preseason game. Both teams played their depth players the entirety of the game, and the Panthers scored the lone touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter.
Austin Seibert was the top player for the Jets, recording four field goals and making every kick he attempted. Seibert nailed a 52-yard field goal for his longest of the day, helping the Jets claim a victory for the second week in a row.
Who Is Going to Make the Jets Roster Following Week Two?
After the second week of preseason play, the Jets have some players on their hands who have truly made a case for their roster spot. Cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse has done a little bit of everything, going from a hybrid to a full-time safety, and now to a full-time cornerback. Bernard-Converse has really excelled as a cornerback, offering both exceptional tackling skill and great coverage ability.
Israel Abanikanda is part of the youngest running back room in the NFL and likely will become a contributor out of the backfield for the Jets. Between Breece Hall and the emergence of Braelon Allen, it appeared to be a tough road for Abanikanda. However, the running back has been performing and showcasing on the field how he is truly an all-around back.

Defensive end Micheal Clemons is someone who could potentially not make the Jets roster this upcoming season. The Jets have added depth with Takkarist McKinley joining the roster and have also watched UDFA Eric Watts shine throughout the preseason. Clemons missed a tackle and recorded a quarterback hit against the Panthers.
Defensive tackle Tanzel Smart is another played who could potentially not make the New York roster this season. Smart battled to make the roster last season and spent time on both the roster and the practice squad for the Jets. Smart has struggled during the preseason, and with seven defensive tackles on the roster, the veteran might be one to go.
Quarterback Adrian Martinez is a young, experienced leader but might not have enough in him to make the Jets roster. Quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor and Jordan Travis both appear to be locks for the roster this upcoming season behind Aaron Rodgers. Travis is still recovering from a brutal injury in college, which could cause the Jets to hold onto Martinez, but the quarterback will not make the roster based on performance alone since he has struggled with turnovers.
Time Might Be Up For UDFA Cornerback Brandon Codrington
It is always great to hear about an undrafted free agent making the roster for the season after the effort, work, and determination that was put in. However, it does not always end like that for every UDFA, and for Brandon Codrington making the Jets roster might come to an end. Codrington had a solid first game and returned a kick for 63 yards this past game, but has struggled in coverage.
