One of the most notable offseason acquisitions for the New York Jets during the 2024 offseason period has already requested to be traded away.
Edge rusher Haason Reddick was traded to the Jets by the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional third-round pick that had the chance to turn into a second-round pick.
Haason Reddick and the New York Jets couldn’t reach a contract agreement

Since the beginning of team activities, Reddick has been holding out and refusing to show up for anything in hopes that the Jets will give him a new contract.
Reddick had accrued fines that collectively passed the $1 million mark by not showing up to so many team activities. He was being fined $50,000 for every day that he missed training camp.
Reddick is still on his old contract, meaning anybody who would decide to trade for him would have to be prepared to give him what he wants in a contract if they want him to contribute to their team.
Not only would the Jets have to find a trading partner willing to pay Reddick before the 2024 season starts, but they would have to try to make a trade with Reddick’s price on the trade market being concretely established earlier this offseason.
Making a trade for Reddick and then trying to turn around and trade him away with no football being played in between will make it hard for them to get more than they gave to the Eagles for Reddick.
The New York Jets/Haason Reddick debacle has fans laughing at the Jets once again

Jets fans are no stranger to misfortune defining their season before the season can really get started. The debacle between Reddick and the Jets shouldn’t define their season like other things have in the past, but it still gives the rest of the NFL world a chance to poke fun at a team that has struggled immensely in recent years.
Just last year, the Jets made a huge splash in the 2023 offseason by acquiring star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The move had many marking the Jets down as Super Bowl contenders heading into the 2023 season. Rodgers then ruptured his Achilles, flushing the Jets’ season down the drain after just four plays.
Reddick would’ve immediately been a top contributor for the Jets defense in 2024, but his absence won’t tank the season in the way Rodgers’ absence did. The excitement Reddick generated for the Jets defense can be felt in this quote by Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in an article from Athlon Sports.
“Oh man, I keep saying it over & over man he’s a Hall of Fame, Defensive Player of the Year caliber player who can edge rush, who can stop the run at a high level,” Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams said of Reddick on Friday. “Adding a guy like that who is so dynamic & explosive. [He is] a guy that everyone in our room can learn from by the different things that he does so well is unbelievable.”
Still, the Reddick debacle once again makes the Jets the laughingstock of the NFL.
