At this point in time, Haason Reddick and the New York Jets aren’t seeing eye to eye when it comes to the former’s contract. If things go south, the front office can potentially trade the pass-rusher to two other teams in the league.
Reddick, recently traded to the Jets, is currently holding out in pursuit of a new contract. Despite being acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, the pass-rusher has not played in the first two games of the season as he seeks a better deal. Initially, he had requested a trade due to dissatisfaction with his contract situation, but the Jets announced they would not consider trading him.
Reddick’s current contract is a three-year, $45 million deal, which the Jets assumed in the trade. However, his absence from the team is proving costly; he has already forfeited over $5 million due to missed training camp and preseason activities. Additionally, he faces further financial penalties for each game he misses, amounting to nearly $800,000 per week.
The Jets, with a strong defensive showing so far, have seven sacks as a team, but Reddick’s presence is missed on the field. The organization appears unwilling to negotiate a contract extension until they assess his performance. As the situation unfolds, it remains uncertain when Reddick will return to action or if he will ultimately secure the deal he desires.
Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Named as Potential Landing Spots for New York Jets’ Haason Reddick
Amidst all the tension between the two parties, there’s the option of just trading Reddick. According to an NFL analysis by Kristopher Knox for Bleacher Report, the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the ideal landing spots for the pass-rusher.
“The Cardinals, who have recorded seven sacks through two weeks, may not be desperate for pass-rushing help. However, a reunion with their 2017 first-round pick could still make sense.
Arizona head coach Jonathan Gannon was Reddick’s defensive coordinator with the Eagles during his first Pro Bowl campaign in 2022.
With $23.6 million in cap space, the Cardinals could afford to offer Reddick the pay increase that New York won’t.
While the Buccaneers only have $12.3 million in cap space available, pursuing Reddick would be a sensible move. Tampa appears to be on the verge of being a legitimate NFC threat, and adding a premier pass-rusher could help spark a deep postseason run,” Knox wrote.
Reddick previously played for the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, and Philadelphia Eagles. Drafted 13th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, he has made a significant impact in the league, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections and recognition for his defensive prowess throughout his career.
It remains to be seen what the Jets will do with Haasock or if he will opt to suit up for the Jets this season. In any case, a lot of eyes will be on the pass-rusher to see where he will end up soon.
