The New York Jets were able to fulfill the prophecy that just about every NFL fan regarding his imminent reunion with Aaron Rodgers. Ever since the four-time NFL MVP was acquired via trade from the Green Bay Packers, most fans speculated that it was just a matter of time before the two joined forces once again.
Of course, it took over a year for the fan prophecy to come to fruition. Despite the Las Vegas Raiders‘ struggles in 2022 and 2023, Adams had two productive seasons for the Las Vegas. In 2022, he was a First Team All-Pro, catching 100 passes for 1,513 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns. In 2023, he had 103 receptions for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns.
The New York Jets Were Able to Acquire Davante Adams In a Trade After He Fell Out with the Las Vegas Raiders
As many fans know, Adams originally wanted to play for the Raiders because it was in close proximity to his extended family and due to his history with quarterback Derek Carr, who had been his teammate in college.
However, Carr was sent home before the end of the 2022 and now plays for the New Orleans Saints. Las Vegas also changed head coaches during the 2023 season while failing to adequately replace Carr at quarterback.
The many changes in personnel, along with comments Adams made that were caught on camera during the Netflix documentary “Receiver,” made many people believe that he was unhappy with the Raiders and wanted to be traded.
In addition to these things, the Jets tried to get Adams ahead of the trade deadline last season.
Despite all of this, Adams (and Rodgers) maintained that they were both happy where they were and downplayed the possibility of a reunion anytime soon.
Things changed quickly, though, in Las Vegas. The Raiders got off to a slow start and Adams popped up on their injury report after three weeks with a hamstring injury. Speculation that he was unhappy only intensified when Las Vegas head coach Antonio Pierce liked a post that stated Adams had played his last game for the Raiders.
It came out later that he had requested a trade. Three weeks later, he was sent to New York.

-Davante Adams— Kay Adams (@heykayadams) October 17, 2024
Kay Adams began the segment by stating that the media “pretty much had it right,” that the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Saints were the other teams trying to trade for the six-time Pro Bowler.
Davante responded, “Yeah well those were the ones that got involved. Those were the ones that I wrote down on a little piece of paper and handed to the general manager. Those were the ones that were interested and it just so happened that the Jets were my number one choice, and they were probably the most interested, or clearly they were the most interested in me as well.”
He also stated that the Kansas City Chiefs were not on his list and that “that was talked about” in regard to why he would not be sent there.
The Raiders and Chiefs are division rivals.
