New York Jets Linked to Former Rival Head Coach Bill Belichick by Former 4x Pro Bowl Quarterback

The New York Jets know what the 2024 NFL season needs to be for them. Earlier this offseason, future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers told reporters, “I think if I don’t do what I know I’m capable of we’re all probably going to be out of here.” In other words, another losing season could mean some massive changes will be coming to New York.

If Rodgers cannot return to form after tearing his Achilles last season, the Jets will most likely want to move on from the four-time NFL MVP. Another failure to produce a winning record and appearance in the NFL Playoffs could also mean that head coach Robert Saleh is let go.

If the latter happens, former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason knows exactly who he wants as the team’s next head coach.

Boomer Esiason Think Bill Belichick Should Be the Next Head Coach of the New York Jets

The expectation, of course, is that the Jets will make the NFL Playoffs (for the first time since 2010) and, hopefully, win the Super Bowl. Failure to at least make the postseason is going to result in a huge turnover on the coaching staff and the roster.

If they cannot meet expectations, once again, former Esiason thinks that New York should look to their former nemesis, Bill Belichick, to be their next head coach:

“That’s gotta be a little dig at Robert Kraft and the Patriots, right? But if there’s only one team that goes after him, because Woody Johnson is sick and tired of losing. And that’s only if they lose this year, of course.

Belichick notoriously had a less-than-amicable ending with the New England Patriots. Going to coach a division rival like the Jets and leading them back to relevance would be the perfect form of revenge.

Why Bill Belichick Would Be a Good Fit for the New York Jets

Obviously, allowing Belichick the chance to get revenge on his former team cannot be the only reason the Jets would hire him. The six-time Super Bowl Champion has a pedigree for winning and the reputation as one of the best football minds of this generation.

He also has the admiration and respect of Aaron Rodgers, who has long expressed a high opinion of the future Hall of Fame coach. If the Jets wanted to allow Rodgers to play out his three-year contract, even after possibly falling short in 2023, Belichick would be a good option to pair him with.

Finally, there are not many coaches that know the division as well as Belichick. He spent 24 years in the AFC East leading the Patriots, after all.

If anyone could change the culture of perpetual losing in New York, it would be Belichick.

Hopefully it does not come to that.
