The New York Jets are one of the last teams to start their 2024 NFL season. They cross the country to face the defending NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers.
However, the Jets are going to have to play this game without one of their key defensive acquisitions. That would be LB Haason Reddick. While New York will miss him on the field, his dramatic holdout carrying into the regular season is certainly costing him a lot of money. With that said, the stakes get even higher for each game Reddick chooses to miss.
Haason Reddick to Lose $800,000 Per Game

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Haason Reddick is expected to forfeit an $800,000 paycheck because he is not participating in the Jets’ Week 1 game against the 49ers. With that in mind, Reddick will lose this amount of money for each additional game he chooses to continue this holdout through. Considering he has a contract worth over $14 million, this can certainly add up if Reddick continues this through the majority of the 2024 season.
Holdout Costing Reddick About $6 Million to Date

To the average American, forfeiting $800,000 is just unheard of. Well, what if I told you that Reddick has cost himself nearly $6 million due to this holdout? This is an amount of money that the majority of Americans could retire on and never have to work again.
As mentioned above, Reddick is forfeiting an $800,000 paycheck because he is missing tonight’s game against the 49ers. However, Schefter reported that Reddick has already been fined over $5 million by the NFL for choosing to continue this holdout as long as he had. As a result, this holdout has cost Reddick about $6 million, or nearly half his expected salary for the 2024 season.
New York Jets Moving Forward

So, what does this mean for the New York Jets? For now, it means they will have to start their 2024 regular season without one of their key players on defense. The Jets were hoping to get a significant upgrade at the linebacker position. Unfortunately, it does not seem like New York and Reddick are on the same page.
We will have to see if Reddick continues this holdout throughout the regular season. If he chooses to do so, this could end up costing him nearly $15 million.
