The New York Jets have certainly had their share of drama this offseason. Some of it included trips to Egypt, featuring star QB Aaron Rodgers.
However, this is not the only time the Jets have made the spotlight. They have struggled to keep particular players happy. Now, one of those players is requesting a trade.
Who is it? Read below to find out.
Haason Reddick Requesting Trade
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Jets LB Haason Reddick is formerly requesting a trade. It has been known he has held out through all offseason activities the Jets have had so far. However, this was assumed to be because of contract reasons.
The surprising aspect of all of this is Reddick was just traded to the Jets this offseason. This was done by the Philadelphia Eagles. Reddick has one year remaining on his contract and he is owed just over $14 million in base salary.
Looking Back at Haason Reddick’s Career
This is Reddick’s eighth season in the NFL. Does this mean he is contemplating retirement? Well, that remains to be seen.
The Jets are Reddick’s fourth different team in his career. However, you can argue his last two years with the Eagles were Reddick’s best of his career.
So, how did Reddick do on the Eagles? He had 27 sacks, five forced fumbles, and 87 combined tackles in his last two seasons. The New York Jets were hoping to benefit from his recent increase in production. Unfortunately, it no longer seems guaranteed that the Jets will even get this opportunity.
New York Jets Firing Back
The New York Jets are in a difficult position here. They just gave up multiple draft picks to acquire Reddick. Because of this, the team does not seem to want to move on from Reddick easily. In fact, Jets general manager Joe Douglas stated that the team has no intentions of trading Reddick at this time. Douglas went on to say that fines would continue if he did not show up to training camp with his teammates.
This is supposed to be a redemption season for the New York Jets after QB Aaron Rodgers only played four snaps in the 2023 season. Now, Reddick’s formal request to be traded ended up creating a huge distraction for the team. We will have to wait and see if either side caves.
