“End the Pro Bowl”: Fans Erupt as New York Jets QB Declines Invite

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields had a disappointing first year with the team and was later benched. He completed 62.7% of his passes for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception while averaging 6.2 yards per attempt, 9.8 yards per completion, and 139.9 passing yards per game, along with an 89.5 passer rating and a 38.8 QBR, finishing with a 2-7 record. The Jets benched Fields during Week 11 and later suffered a knee injury, leading the team to place him on injured reserve ahead of Week 17.

Since they would only free up $1 million in cap space and incur $22 million in dead cap with a pre-June 1 cut, the Jets will likely designate Fields as a post-June 1 cut this offseason. The front office would free up $10 million in cap space while incurring $13 million in dead cap in 2026 and $9 million in 2027, per Over The Cap.

Since Drake Maye made the Super Bowl, the AFC needed another quarterback to replace him for the Pro Bowl Games. According to Ian Rapoport, the NFL asked Justin Fields to participate, but he ultimately declined, focusing on his offseason training. Because multiple players were hurt or declined the offer, Shedeur Sanders replaced Maye.

NFL fans chimed in on Fields being offered to participate, calling the Pro Bowl a joke and saying it should be eliminated.
