The New York Jets are trying to improve to 2-1 with a divisional win over the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football.
Before the game, a video of Jets fans getting ready to watch their team take on the Patriots showed a big circle of fans surrounding a Patriots jersey.
New York Jets fans ignited the Patriots jersey
The Patriots jersey in the middle of all the Jets fans belonged to former New England quarterback Mac Jones, who is now a backup for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jets faithful lit the jersey on fire as they did their “J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!” chant, almost as if they were burning an effigy as a part of a religious ritual.

Jets fans are known for being rowdy despite the struggles that have defined recent years. Head coach Robert Saleh and quarterback Aaron Rodgers said in an article from the Jets website that he loves the energy the Jets faithful bring to MetLife Stadium.
“I love the Jets fans,” head coach Robert Saleh said. “MetLife is always alive, and I am really excited about getting those Jets fans out there and hearing those chants again soon.”
“People are just so proud and excited to be out wearing Jets stuff,” QB Aaron Rodgers said. “There’s energy wherever you go. The reaction from our fans is really just positive and supportive.”
Many fans took to social media to criticize Jets fans for several reasons upon seeing the video. Some say the Jets should’ve at least burned the jersey of an active player while others say the Jets’ recent struggles should bar them from such bold acts of fandom.
