Rather than play with Brandon Aiyuk in the lineup, San Francisco 49ers’ Deebo Samuel would do well to play for another team before the season ends. According to the latest NFL analysis by Bleacher Report, the New York Jets are projected to be a good landing spot for the wide receiver.
Samuel recently achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming the first wide receiver in NFL history to record both 20 receiving touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns. This historic feat highlights Samuel’s unique versatility on the field, a trait that has redefined the role of wide receivers in the league.
During the 49ers’ recent victory over the Seattle Seahawks, Samuel caught a 76-yard touchdown pass, marking his second receiving touchdown of the season and the 20th of his career. While he may not be as prolific a runner in 2024 as he was during his standout 2021 season, when he amassed 1,408 receiving yards and an impressive 365 rushing yards, Samuel continues to showcase his multifaceted skill set.
Only 19 players in NFL history have achieved the 20/20 milestone, primarily running backs, including notable names like Alvin Kamara and Christian McCaffrey. Comparatively, Samuel stands alone among wide receivers, with Jerry Rice’s 10 rushing touchdowns being the next highest in this category.
While Samuel may never replicate his dynamic 2021 performance, his ability to impact the game both in the air and on the ground solidifies his legacy. This achievement not only underscores his unique talent but also sets a precedent for future wide receivers. As the NFL evolves, Samuel’s groundbreaking accomplishment may inspire a new generation of players to diversify their skills, blurring the lines between traditional positions in football.
NFL Analysis Projects New York Jets Acquiring Wide Receiver Deebo Samuel
If things don’t work out well for Deebo in San Francisco, the time may be ripe for him to request for a trade. If this happens, Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon suggested that the New York Jets acquire the wide receiver.
The summer drama surrounding Brandon Aiyuk made it necessary for the San Francisco 49ers to keep Deebo Samuel. However, his long-term future with the Niners is once again a fair question.
In short, the organization could move on from Samuel this offseason because his production hasn’t been worth the price.
The challenge is the structure of his contract may compel San Francisco to keep him through the 2025 season. That particular timeline doubles as what seems like would be Aaron Rodgers’ last possible year.
If the Jets are truly all-in, they might as well pursue Davante Adams. But a home-run swing of a backup plan would be Samuel, who built his reputation on being dynamic in the open field. Rodgers isn’t thriving on downfield passes anymore, so an elusive playmaker could be a much-needed boost. Samuel may benefit from the ol’ change of scenery, too.
As the NFL trade deadline approaches, speculation surrounds a potential deal that could send Samuel to New York. With concerns about Samuel’s long-term future in San Francisco, some analysts suggest the Jets could benefit from his dynamic playmaking, especially with quarterback Aaron Rodgers struggling in downfield passes.
In exchange, the 49ers might receive a 2025 third-round pick. While this trade remains hypothetical, it highlights the shifting dynamics within the league and the strategic decisions that teams may face in the coming weeks.
