The New York Jets offensive line has significantly improved compared to last season. In 2023, the Jets’ offensive line ranked as one of the worst units in the league, allowing the 2nd-most pressures and the T-4th most sacks. Through eight games, the offensive line is ranked at the top in PFF’s offensive line rankings and has given up the T-8th most pressures and the T-16th most sacks in 2024.
Their O-line will have their hands full against the Houston Texans, who have the 3rd-most pressures and the 3rd-most sacks on Thursday night. To make matters worse, their talented interior offensive lineman is banged up.
The New York Jets talented former 1st round pick suffered an injury a few weeks ago
Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered an apparent ankle injury in the second quarter of their Week 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Vera-Tucker did not return for the remainder of the game despite initially being listed as questionable. He did not participate in last week’s practice, and the Jets ruled him out of their Week 8 loss to the New England Patriots.
He will not play tomorrow night
Alijah Vera-Tucker did not participate in this week’s practice. The New York Jets released their final injury report of the week on Wednesday and have ruled out six players. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN NFL Nation, the Jets have ruled out Vera-Tucker for tomorrow’s game against the Houston Texans. He will miss his second consecutive week.

Who replaces him at RG?
The expectation is for Jake Hanson to start at right guard. Hanson filled in for Vera-Tucker and Xavier Newman when both players left Week 7 with their injuries and got the nod at right guard in Week 8. He played well last week, surrendering one pressure and one sack, and had a 62.3 pass block, a 75.8 run block, and a 76.0 PFF grade.
