Justin Fields is starting a new chapter in his NFL career with the New York Jets. After stints with the Chicago Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fields gets another chance to prove himself as a QB1, with the Jets having moved on from their failed Aaron Rodgers phase.
The former Ohio State Buckeyes star signal-caller is also participating already in the Jets’ OTAs. He’s reportedly shown some flashes during practice last Wednesday, but he wasn’t spectacular either, with SNY beat reporter Connor Hughes reporting that New York’s defense got to Fields several times during 11-on-11 drills.
The defense sacked Fields on six of his 10 drop backs. Fields completed three of the other four. Two were dump-offs to Jeremy Ruckert. One was a short pass to Wilson.
The miss was a little alarming. The Jets blitzed. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand dialed up a perfect beater that had Josh Reynolds open on a corner route without safety help. It seemed a pretty easy pitch-and-catch for a would-be long gainer (potential touchdown). Fields missed him pretty bad.
Fields can still impress with the New York Jets in the offseason

It is still too early to make any final verdict on Fields’ outlook in his first season with the Jets, who signed him to a two-year contract worth $40 million.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how Fields evolves with the offense, as he sees more practice on the field with the Jets, who were just 24th last season in the league with an offense that averaged 19.9 points per game.
