The New York Jets are looking to go from a 7-10 team in 2023 to a Super Bowl contender in 2024. That is what a healthy Aaron Rodgers can do to a team. Rodgers felt like New York was the best opportunity to win last off-season, and made it clear he wanted to be a Jet.
The Jets have done a lot of work this off-season to build around Rodgers, however, one teammate has no desire to stick around.
Aaron Rodgers Not Enough For New York Jets Teammate To Stick Around
It has been four months since Haason Reddick was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New York Jets, and he wants to be traded again. In another dramatic turn in the long-running contract dispute, CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones reports that the star pass rusher has officially asked to be shipped out of New Jersey:
Reddick, 29, was originally acquired by the Jets in April in exchange for a conditional third-round draft pick. The two-time Pro Bowler unsuccessfully sought a pay raise with the Eagles prior to the deal, and multiple reports have indicated that he anticipated landing a new contract with the Jets.
The two sides have failed to negotiate an extension, however, prompting Reddick to skip both mandatory minicamp and training camp.
Reddick’s father, Raymond Matthew, told ESPN after April’s trade that his son “outperformed his contract” and “just wanted market value.”
He was seeking a new contract before the trade, having recorded 50.5 sacks and 83 quarterback hits in the past four seasons. His current contract has a non-guaranteed $14.25 million remaining.
The Eagles signed former Jets defensive end Bryce Huff to a three-year, $51.1 million free agent contract instead of paying Reddick.
In order to avoid counting against the roster limit and salary cap, the Jets placed Reddick on the reserve/did not report list.
Rodgers figures to make this Jets team a Super Bowl contender, but losing a pass rusher like Reddick will hurt their defense in a significant way.
