The New York Giants made a pair of headline-grabbing moves to address the quarterback position this offseason, signing Russell Wilson to a one-year deal worth $21.5 million and adding veteran backup Jameis Winston for $4 million.
But according to Pro Football Focus, that doesn’t mean Big Blue is done making waves — just not where many expect.
Could the New York Giants Pass on a QB for Travis Hunter in NFL Draft?

In his latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, PFF’s Mason Cameron has the Giants using the No. 1 overall pick to select Colorado’s Travis Hunter, rather than taking a swing at a quarterback like Shedeur Sanders.
“There appears to be a growing sentiment that the Giants (and Browns) aren’t entirely sold on bringing in Shedeur Sanders,” Cameron writes for PFF. “With Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on the roster, New York secures the top overall prospect in the 2025 draft class in Colorado’s two-way superstar.”
Hunter, widely considered the most electrifying and versatile player in college football, starred at both cornerback and wide receiver for the Buffaloes. His athleticism, elite ball skills, and ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball make him a rare prospect — one the Giants may view as a foundational building block rather than a luxury pick.

According to PFF, Hunter could step in immediately as an upgrade over 2023 first-round cornerback Deonte Banks, who earned a 50.3 coverage grade in 2024. On offense, he’d also give the Giants another dynamic weapon alongside rookie standout Malik Nabers.
In all likelihood, Hunter would play receiver at the NFL level, and could form a dynamic tandem opposite Nabers, which could lift one of the more stagnant offenses across the league last season.
While questions remain about whether Wilson is a long-term solution under center — or just a bridge quarterback — this projection reflects the idea that New York could wait to address quarterback and instead build a roster capable of supporting one in the future.
If Hunter lives up to the hype, he could be the kind of franchise-altering presence that makes that wait worthwhile.
