New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito saw preseason action earlier than expected on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. DeVito came into the game in the first half for the Giants after quarterback Drew Lock injured his hip in the first quarter.
Lock did not look good as he completed 4-of-10 passes for 17 yards and one interception. The offense looked inept with him running the show. Drew Lock was signed in the offseason after being Geno Smith’s backup with the Seattle Seahawks a season ago.
When DeVito came into the football game, the offense looked much better for the Giants. He led them to two scoring drives in the first half. DeVito completed 8-of-15 passes for 92 yards. The New York Giants won the game over the Detroit Lions 14-3.
New York Giants Fans Call For Tommy DeVito To Be the Backup Quarterback Over Drew Lock
Giants fans are always known for overreacting to certain things, but this may not be one of them. Some thought Drew Lock had a chance to dethrone Daniel Jones as the starting quarterback, but Lock may not even win the backup job over Tommy DeVito.
DeVito was a fan favorite for the Giants last season when Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor got hurt. This is what some of the Giants fans had to say about wanting DeVito as the backup quarterback over Drew Lock:
Just finishing the Giants game…
The Drew Lock signing is a bit of a 5 million dollar disaster, Tommy DeVito is just flat out better

I missed Tommy DeVito in my life.
There is still a large part of me that wants him to be the starting QB.

2 thoughts from the 1st half
(since that’s all my brain can handle)1. Eric Gray is a guy
2. There is absolutely no way you can cut Tommy DeVito now #Giants100

It would be total roster malpractice if the Giants cut him before the start of the 2024 season. New York still has two more preseason games left before the start of the year. The Giants will see what they have with DeVito and Lock. There is a reason why he did win three games as the starter a season ago and was a fan favorite. This fanbase would be upset if Drew Lock won the backup job over him.
