During Tuesday’s New York Giants practice, rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was injured on a kickoff. According to Art Stapleton, it was a right ankle injury and they’ve got the equipment for an air cast and the cart was out.
This is not good news for the Giants. He competed with Eric Gray for the second running back spot on the New York Giants roster. Devin Singletary will be the Giants’ starting running back for the 2024 season. With this injury, it could create even more uncertainty in the New York Giants running back room before the 2024 season begins.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. was a fifth-round pick from Purdue in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Giants needed to address the running back position in the draft because Saquon Barkley left for the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency this offseason.
New York Giants Running Back Tyrone Tracy Jr. Played Well Against the Detroit Lions
Tracy Jr. rushed for 26 yards on five carries against the Lions in the 14-3 preseason win this past Thursday. He showed some good bursts of speed in the game. Tyrone Tracy Jr. did not catch any passes out of the backfield in the game.
Eric Gray was the star in the game in the backfield for the New York Giants, but Tyrone Tracy Jr. was also going to be a factor in this offense. We will see how long Tracy Jr. will be sidelined with the Giants.
Fans React
New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered an ankle injury earlier in the week. Luckily, he will be okay and it wasn’t a major injury. This is how the Giants fanbase reacted to the news:
Oh boy! And the field isn’t the problem again right? Yea right!😡

Hoping and praying it’s nothing more than a few weeks!— Anthony Deas (@Infamousant41) August 13, 2024
Feel really awful for #Giants rookie RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. Older prospect, but some INCREDIBLY promising underlying metrics & I believed he had a shot to earn RB1 share as early as year 1. He was their most explosive option & would’ve offered a different dynamic in the pass game.

With Tracy Jr. being sidelined for now, will Dante Miller emerge as the New York Giants third running back? He had 63 yards rushing on 12 carries. Miller will receive a lot of carries against the Houston Texans over the weekend.
