The New York Giants recently played in their first preseason game against the Detroit Lions. It was Drew Lock who started at quarterback for that game. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury and left the game before the end of the first quarter.
Now, more details have emerged about the said injury. Read below to find out more.
No Surgery Needed for Drew Lock
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, New York Giants QB Drew Lock will miss some time but will not require surgery. Lock suffered a strained oblique and is dealing with a bad bone contusion. So, while Lock avoided a significant injury, he is not 100% healthy.
New York Giants’ Quarterback Situation
Some people speculated that Lock could challenge Daniel Jones for the starting job. This is especially the case with Daniel Jones struggling during certain parts of the Giants’ training camp. However, this injury should all but put those thoughts to bed.
Daniel Jones did not end up playing in last night’s game against the Lions. The Giants are likely being cautious here, especially with Lock getting hurt last night. For now, he is listed as the team’s starting quarterback.
Then, there is Tommy DeVito. Last year, Giants fans fell in love with him because he was an Italian American kid who grew up in New Jersey. With an unexpected appearance in a Giants uniform after Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor went down, DeVito won the hearts and minds of Giants fans. Fans still seem to love DeVito, as they cheered for him when he appeared in last night’s preseason game.
New York Giants Moving Forward
This is going to be a big year for the New York Giants. After having the worst offensive line in football last season, several veterans were signed to try to shape up the offensive line. Plus, several linemen are returning from injuries they suffered last season.
Then, there is the big trade the Giants made in the offseason to acquire LB Brian Burns. On top of this, the Giants drafted WR Malik Nabers in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
However, these moves came at a cost. For starters, RB Saquon Barkley chose not to return to the Giants and instead, he signed with the division rival Philadelphia Eagles. Then, there is S Xavier McKinney, who signed a monster contract with the Green Bay Packers. Now, the Giants are hoping they made the right moves this offseason to help out Daniel Jones.
