The New York Giants made additions to the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Tuesday. With training camp opening up, the Giants were able to designate the players that are still injured or working their way back from injury. Some of the names on the list are of no surprise. There is also optimism because of some names that were left off the list.
Added To The List
Any players added to the list can return at any point during camp. However, if the enter week one on the list they will be required to miss the first six weeks. Rookie tight end, Daniel Bellinger was put on the list last week with a calf injury. Offensive linemen Nick Gates and Matt Peart were added to the list along with wide receiver Sterling Shephard.
Gates suffered a leg fracture in week two and there is optimism that he could return this season. Peart tore his ACL towards the end of the season and Shephard tore his Achilles a week prior. There is no certainty that either player will be ready for the start of the season. Azeez Ojulari was not placed on the PUP list, but was designated to the non-football injury list with a hamstring problem.
Left Off The List
There were some key Giants that were left off of the PUP list. Wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay are joined by Andrew Thomes and Kayvon Thibodeaux. All of these players missed time in the spring, but are set to join practice Wednesday morning. If these four players can stay healthy, they will all be expected to make an impact on the team all season.
