The New York Giants at one point during the 2024 NFL season lost 10 straight games. When they had a 2-13 record entering Week 17 of the NFL season, they beat the Indianapolis Colts 45-33 to end a 10-game losing streak to improve to 3-13.
On Sunday in Week 18, the New York Giants lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 20-13. The Giants went 0-6 in NFC East play this season and owner John Mara was not thrilled with that at all.
New York Giants Owner John Mara Makes Bold Statement About Team Tanking Toward the End Of the 2024 NFL Season
Many Giants fans wanted the team to tank toward the end of the 2024 season. Many fans wanted the team to end up with the number one pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but they will have the number three pick instead. On Monday, owner John Mara met with the media to talk about potential tanking. Mara said:
“If I had thought that we were tanking either one of those games, I would’ve fired everybody. We are never going to do that in this organization as long as I’m standing on this side of the grass.”
Well, this is not the answer that New York Giants fans are looking for, but this has to be the answer from John Mara whether fans like it or not. Players are paid too much money in this league to be tanking. The Giants were just not a good football team to begin with. General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll will be getting a fourth season with New York.

There are a lot of mixed and interesting reactions from the New York Giants fanbase about Mara’s tanking comments. However, there is no doubt that teams like the Cleveland Browns and the Tennessee Titans were tanking over the last couple of weeks. The Giants or other NFL teams could benefit from an NFL Draft Lottery. There isn’t one this year, but owner John Mara better hopes that his club gets the 2025 NFL Draft right.
